“Ich bringe Lehramtsstudenten bei, wie sie mit dem Thema Israel umgehen sollen. Beibringen ist vielleicht das falsche Wort: ich gebe ihnen Impulse und Ideen, wie man das in der Oberstufe mit den Schülern besprechen könnte. Das wichigste dabei ist es, neutral zu bleiben – schließlich vertrete ich die wissenschaftliche Seite hier. Das ganze Thema hat so viele Facetten und Bereiche: geopolitische, kulturelle, historische – und was nicht sonst noch. Manchmal ist es auch ein echtes Pulverfass. Da muss ich dann auch ab und zu die Wogen glätten – wie vor kurzem in einer Tagung. Aber es ist ein überaus spannendes Thema.”

“I am teaching students of teaching how to deal with the topic Isreal. Well, teaching is probably not the right word: it is more about giving impulses and ideas how to discuss this topic with pupils in the last two years of school. The most important part is to stay neutral – I am representing the sciences here. The whole topic has so many aspects and areas: geopolitical, cultural, historic – you name it – and it also can be quite an explosive topic. Sometimes I am the one who has to calm down everyone – like in a conference a while ago. But it is a more than interesting topic.”
